Website Research and Planning

Website research

Research lesson one - 21/01/15 - Little Mix

Screenshot of Little Mix's homepage

The Little Mix website can be seen here.

The Little Mix website is fairly dark and is clearly linked to their latest album, Salute (shown on the left).
There is only one main image of the website which appears to be the focal point, presumably to  get this image into the viewers' heads so that they recognise it when they see the album in shops.

The colours on the website are all very similar, with red being a clear focus of the website. This is likely to be because their logo for the album cover is in red, and the colours all link in together.
The colours and fonts are also very bold, synonymous with the 'girl power' message of the single Salute.

Some of the features on the website include an advert to sign up for the newsletter, a merchandise page, a news section, as well as links to their social media accounts. It includes a live twitter feed where fans can see the girls' latest tweets and uploads. The largest icon on the page is a link to their music video for Salute. On one of the boxes, there is an image of the salute album, and when it is clicked on, redirects you to the iTunes website to buy the album. There is also a "Mix it up!" icon where when clicked on, the boxes on the page shuffle and the titles change colour. Additionally, there is a link to buy the band's merchandise.

Research lesson one - 30/01/15 - Olly Murs and One Direction

The main image of the website is of Olly himself. The three diamonds underneath the red writing can be clicked on to change which image of Olly is on the screen. The image is black and white so stands out on the page.

At the top of the website there is a feature where the audience can play Olly's most recent songs for free and get a taste of his album.

Throughout the home page of Olly's website, there are various links to his products. There are links to buy his album; buy tickets to his tour; subscribe to his spotify page and links to his social media sites. This shows the demographic of the people he's targeting - young people who are technologically abled and savvy.

These are some screenshots of the One Direction official website. The main image is the one seen above when you click on the page link. The image comes from their new album 'Four' so they are promoting themselves through their website.  They are meeting the expectations of their audience and fan base by having a photo dominated website of themselves. They have their tour dates available on the front page as well as a montage video from their concerts. The colour scheme is mainly black and white to link to their logo and to maintain brand recognition. At the top of the page, there are links to other places within their websites which allows their fans to navigate around the site easily and effectively.
